Here's why. The acid in white distilled vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics, yet strong enough to dissolve the alkalies in soaps and detergents. This prevents yellowing, acts as a fabric softener and static cling reducer, and attacks mold and mildew, and more. Below are 13 common problems with easy vinager solutions.

Reduce static cling and keep lint from sticking to clothes: add 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the wash cycle.

Water & salt stains off shoes and boots: Wiping them down with a solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and water.

Perspiration odor and stains as well as those left by deodorants: Spray full-strength white distilled vinegar on underarm and collar areas before tossing them into the washing machine.

Holes left along the hemline when you let out the hem: Moisten a cloth with white distilled vinegar, placing it under the fabric, then iron.

Mildew smell on wet towels or laundry left in washer: Pour a few cups of white distilled vinegar in the machine and wash the clothes in hot water. Then run a normal cycle with detergent.

Dull, faded black clothes: Use white distilled vinegar in your final rinse. The soap residue makes black look dull.

Dingy whites :. Add 1 cup white distilled vinegar to a large pot of water, bring it to a rolling boil and drop in the articles. Let soak overnight.

Bring out bright colors: Add 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle.

Acidic stains like mustard spaghetti, barbecue, or ketchup stains: Dab with white distilled vinegar.

Smoky odors on clothes: Fill the bathtub with very hot water and 1 cup white distilled vinegar. Hang the garments above the steaming water and shut the door so the steam can penetrate the fibers.

I am off to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Miami this weekend, and it got me thinking. I go to fashion shows at fashion week, and read magazines, and check out what celebrities are wearing to see what is going to be in style next, and who all the new hot designers are. Although some of these same trends apply to vintage since what is being created today is inevitably inspired by a past era, where do we go to figure out who the next hot vintage designer is going to be, or what labels we should start scooping up now, before they get too popular and too expensive?

What to wear to a summer wedding?

It's summer wedding season, so what do you wear? We asked Robin Dunlap of Azure Event Productions is an event planning company specializing in high end events in South Florida, to give us some advise.

Style: Find out what the bridesmaids are wearing and follow a similar style (casual cocktail dresses, more formal gowns, etc) but be careful not to get too close to the same color. Mimic the trends in wedding dresses, using lace in a new way (crumb catcher, belt), lots of pleats, and pockets.
Color: Bold colors are totally in now. Pastels are for the mothers. Don't be afraid to wear that red dress or bright blue skirt. Black is also acceptable. Previously people shied away from wearing black. You don't have to look like you are going to a funeral though. Add color with fun shoes or a belt. White/ivory/cream is still completely off limits!
Fabric: Stick with fabrics that mimic the season and setting. A gauzy chiffon for a beachside affair or a more structured satin for a ballroom soiree.
Shoes: Think about bringing along cute flats that are more comfy when you want to kick off your heels on the dance floor. Because bare feet are not in fashion
Hair: When thinking about hair styles, stay away from up-dos so you don't blend in with the bridal party. Asymmetrical low buns or loose curls are definitely in.
Tip: Remember to bring a wrap. Many places of worship still frown on bare shoulders. And you'll want it when the AC is cranked up in the church or at the reception.
Guys can be fashionable too! They will usually wear suits to a wedding but that doesn't mean they can't have fun with it. Look at great standard linen or cotton suits that you can add a bit of color to. A pocket square and vintage tie can really add some unique style and pull an outfit together. A pop of color in the socks is always a fun surprise!

You love your summer dresses and aren’t ready to put them away until next spring. Don’t worry. Wrap a scarf around your neck
Not only is it trendy, it is also functional. Covering up your neck creates the illusion of heavier clothing (even though you may not be adding that much), and reminds people of colder weather. While it is still warm add a thin silk scarf. As the weather changes, you can wear heavier ones. Wrap it around, and around, close to your neck. (Don’t wear it loosely draped tied in a knot like a flight attendant) This is also a great way to add some color to your outfit, or a create an interesting look with a contrasting pattern.

Add a blazer or jacket
A blazer in earth tones like brown, olive green, & mustard yellow, or heavier fabrics like corduroy and velvet, will easily make your dress fall appropriate, (and it will keep the chill away as the days get cooler). If your dress is loose and flowing like a tunic dress or a smock dress, add a structured jacket like a menswear-y blazer with stretch fabric so you don’t loose your shape. If you dress is more fitted, try a boxy or a trapeze jacket.

Wear a long sleeve blouse underneath
There are so many options here depending on the dress. It is a very current look since jumpers are so strong this season. If you are wearing a more structured dress, a silk blouse with long full sleeves and a tie neck, or ruffle is a way to give it the feminine touch. A button down, or oxford style shirt will make it more serious and sophisticated. Sometimes a contrasting neckline can be very interesting. If your dress has a scoop, or square neckline, add a shirt that has a ballerina neckline. Make sure the sleeves of your blouse are longer than those of your dress. If your dress is tank style, you can wear any length sleeves you want. Mutton, or big puffy sleeves are a fun way to modernize a tank style dress. A cashmere sweater also works to make it more cold weather appropriate.

Swap your sandals for boots or booties
Boots instantly make a dress more rugged and thus, autumnal. Wear them with out tights until the weather gets cold, allowing some skin to show between the top of the boot and the hem of your dress. 80s style booties are also a trendy choice, but are a bit funkier and more challenging to wear. For a more classic look go for equestrian style boots. They work with just about anything.

Dissolve a few tablets of aspirin (white, non coated) in a cup of hot water. Pour over the stain, or if the fabric allows, add cool water and soak the garment. When it looks like the stain has been removed, rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

Laundry Tip: How to wash sequined or embellished items

So we all love the sequin trend! Sequined mini dresses, embellished tops, beaded sweaters, but it can really be a budget buster if you have to spend $20 dry cleaning your item every time you wear it. Here is an easy trick that will allow you to wash your sequined, beaded and embellished items at home.

Find a cotton pillowcase that is neutral colored. ( You don't want the pillow case to run all over your fabulous item).
Turn your embellished garment inside out and place it inside the pillow case.
Tie a knot as close to the item as you can so that the garment isn't swishing around inside the pillow case. Now you are ready to throw it in the washing machine. Be sure it is on the gentle cycle.
Lay flat to dry.

The pillow case protects your items from getting snagged on other items in the wash, or the machine. Also, since the delicate item is balled up tightly in the pillow case, it prevents your garment from being stretched out, or jostled too much inside the washer, and keeps it from rubbing against itself. The cotton pillow case still allows water and soap to soak through it, so your item will come out in the same condition as it went in, except clean!

VPOD: A Touch of Pucci
While I love Pucci prints, they can be difficult for me to wear because they tend to overpower my little frame. So imagine my delight to find this subdued version!

This 1960s blue-gray jersey dress has just the right amount of a fab Pucci print on the bodice panel and cuffs. And since Pucci dresses usually are all print, it just makes this dress that much more interesting.

And by the way, Sheffield MacIntyre, who's responsible for offering this beauty for sale, is organizing The Miami Vintage Clothing & Accessories Show & Sale on Saturday and Sunday, March 29th and 30th at the Woman's Club of Coconut Grove. Decked out in vintage Pucci the girls from Back-in-Style.com (me and my 13 niece/apprentice) were busy running around Art Basel last week style watching the interesting mix of people and attending fabulous parties and fashion shows. Of particular interest were the Pucci 60th Anniversary brunch, and the Matthew Williamson for Emilio Pucci Spring Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus, which gave us a preview of the new and different direction the brand will be moving towards. Laudomia Pucci, daughter of legendary fashion designer Emilio Pucci, and Matthew Williamson, Pucci’s creative director, celebrated the 60th anniversary of Emilio Pucci during an exclusive brunch that featured a stunning installation by renowned visual artist Gerard Cholot, who was on hand as well.

The event was held on Pine Tree Drive at the opulent waterfront estate of Norma and Luis Quintero, whose private ballroom was transformed into a tribute to the late fashion designer. Cholot’s creative and interactive installation, which was a recreation of his May ’07 transformation of the Palazzo Pucci’s courtyard, overtook the space as guests mingled amongst the vibrant Pucci designs.

Quilted bags- Insulating and warm, quilted items are always popular for fall as the weather gets cooler. Cardigan sweaters-whether they are embellished, as seen on the Balenciaga runway, or oversized, as seen on celebrities, a cardigan sweater is both functional and fashionable this fall. How to wear your summer dresses into the Fall

You love your summer dresses and aren’t ready to put them away until next spring. Don’t worry. Here are a few easy ways to transition those dresses into autumnal attire.

Add a jacket
A blazer in earth tones like brown, olive green, & mustard yellow, will easily make your dress fall appropriate, (and it will keep the chill away as the days get cooler). If your dress is loose and flowing like a tunic dress or a smock dress, add a structured jacket like a menswear-y blazer with stretch fabric so you don’t loose your shape. If you dress is more fitted, try a boxy or a trapeze jacket.

Wear a long sleeve blouse underneath
There are so many options here depending on the dress. If you are wearing a more structured dress, a silk blouse with long full sleeves and a tie neck, or ruffle is a way to give it the feminine touch. A button down, or oxford style shirt will make it more serious and sophisticated. Sometimes a contrasting neckline can be very interesting. If your dress has a scoop, or square neckline, add a shirt that has a ballerina neckline. Make sure the sleeves of your blouse are longer than those of your dress. If your dress is tank style, you can wear any length sleeves you want. Mutton, or big puffy sleeves are a fun way to modernize a tank style dress. A cashmere sweater also works to make it more cold weather appropriate.

Swap your sandals for boots or booties
Boots instantly make a dress more rugged and thus, autumnal. Wear them with out tights until the weather gets cold, allowing some skin to show between the top of the boot and the hem of your dress. 80s style booties are also a trendy choice, but are a bit funkier and more challenging to wear. For a more classic look go for equestrian style boots. They work with just about anything.

Add tights or leggings
Start with semi-sheer tights and gradually shift to opaque as the season moves along and it gets chillier outside. Opaque tights will seem too wintery now, unless they have a cut out pattern and allow a bit of skin to peek through.
Leggings on the other hand, that stop at the ankle or above, and show some skin, should be opaque or else you will look like you are wearing dancers tights. The trick to leggings this time of year, it to be sure to wear them with shoes that allow the top of you feet to show. This keeps them a little lighter, and less serious.
Keep both tights and leggings dark or earth toned.
You can slowly incorporate each of these wardrobe transition as the weather gets colder, and eventually add them all at the same time.

As the Summer turns up the heat, celebrity dressing gets RED HOT!

No matter what the occasion, celebrities are sporting red dresses. Whether it is a formal affair, a cocktail party, or just kicking around town out to lunch with friends, red is always a good choice. Bright, cheery, it commands attention, but because it signifies so many different things, you will be able to wear it through out the year.

Owning a fabulous red dress is a wardrobe essential, and although it seems like a bright "notice me" color, it is surprisingly versatile. During summer, it is a light and fun color. You can make it nautical by adding navy and white. Or girly and whimsical by adding pink. Come fall, it can look autumn-y by adding browns, and other earth tones. Around the holidays, a red dress is perfect for all your Christmas parties. Then in February comes Valentine's day and Women's Heart Awareness month, both red dress occasions. (and if you are going to a Heart Health Ball a red dress is a must!). So if you thought you would only wear a red dress once, think again, and maybe you will realize you need one!

Nautical Chic- the hottest trend for summer!

Nothing says summer better than nautical attire. And a great thing about this trend is that there are so many ways to wear it. Than means, no matter what shape or size you are, there is some aspect of this trend that can work for you.

Rope accents- handbags with rope handles, pants with drawstring, rope like jewelry, and chain necklaces. And if it has a knot on the end, even better. Low budget option: make your own belt out of rope you bought from the hardware store. Cut it a bit longer than your size so you have enough room to tie a knot and have some hanging down. Then, lightly burn the ends to prevent fraying. Wear with anything that has belt loops, or to cinch a dress.

Navy & white- a classic summer staple. Stripes are the most signature, but feel free to wear the combo any way you like. It will always look sophisticated. If you are going for trendy, add some yellow. Try yellow accessories like a bangle or pumps. Or use a yellow undershirt to layer over. If you are wearing blue AND white, be sure to skip any red accents. You don’t want to look like the fourth of July.

Sailor button front- this style looks great with higher waisted pieces worn with a tucked in fitted shirt. Keep in mind this style does not work for pear shapes since it draws the eye to your hips.

Anchors- anything with an anchor, whether it is a large embroidered anchor, or an emblem on the buttons. Anchors are chic. If they make you feel too much like a midshipmen? Try them in non-nautical colors like pink, or green. Still summery and girly, but more unusual.

There are many option for going nautical chic this summer so be sure to pick the one that works best for your body type and your style. Remember, wearing something because it is flattering always looks better than something because it is trendy…

Designer Spotlight- Catherine Malandrino

Fiesty Malandrino was born in Grenoble, France, and got her start working in Paris for such talents as Emanuel Ungaro, Louis Feraud Haute Couture, and Et Vous.

She arrived in the U.S. with a bang in 1988, taking on the role as head designer of Diane von Furstenberg, before launching her eponymous label in 1998. Her rock-inspired looks procured a strong following of celebs and stylists who appreciate her sexy signature.

Never shy about the importance of seduction in her designs, she coos, "I want to design irresistible clothes that make a woman desirable, clothes that a man just wants to discreetly take off."

Malandrino designs both collections while her husband Bernard Aidan serves as CEO of the brand.

Designer Spotlight- Diane Von Furstenberg

"She was born Diane Michelle Halfin in Brussels, Belgium in 1946. She is Belgian by birth, with Russian Jewish blood. Her mother Lily Nahmias, was a courageous survivor of Auschwitz German Concentration camp. Diane majored in Economics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. In 1969, she became an apprentice to Angelo Ferretti, an Italian textile manufacturer.

Using silk jersey prints she produced a line of clothes, mostly tunic dresses in varying length and bias-cut shirtwaisters. In the same year, she moved with her husband Austrian Prince Egon von Und Zu Furstenberg, to New York. She showed some dresses she had made to Diana Vreeland, then editor of Vogue, who put one of her dresses in the magazine. It was a hit. In 1972, she had enough orders toopen her own business in New York.

In the 70's, she created a wraparound dress, which became a best seller. It had long sleeves, a fitted top and a skirt which wrapped around the body to tie at the waist. By 1975, 5 million of these wraparound dresses had been sold.

Von Furstenberg favours jersey and often uses geometric prints in the dresses she designs.

In 1975, Diane Von Furstenberg made the cover of Newsweek magazine. She was called New York's fashion queen.

In 1984 she sold portions of her company for $24 million and moved to Paris.

In 1990, she moved back to New York.

In 1997, her daughter-in-law because creative director of Diane Von Furstenberg

In 1999 Diane von Furstenberg became a Director on the Board of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) the ruling body of the American fashion industry.

In September of 2002 at New York Fashion Week, one of the Diane von Furstenberg's most glamourous dresses was modeled by Indian model Meghana Reddy, which is the first time that an Indian girl has been seen on the New York fashion scene. "

Spring trend alert: Strapless Cocktail Dresses

In comes Spring and Out go the straps. Strapless cocktail dresses are the hot item this spring, and although they aren't original, they do have a new, decidedly 80's style.
For one thing, the sweetheart neckline is back... We certainly haven't seen that since the 80's. It is an easy neckline line to wear as it flatters any chest size, large or small. If you have large shoulders, strapless is the way to go. It minimizes your broadness.
Not comfortable repeating your prom days? A straight across neckline is timeless but only works on small to medium busted women. If you are any larger, stick with a sweetheart neckline.

Excessive fabric is another trendy element to the new strapless dress. Ruching, gathering, draping, pleating, what ever it may be, there should be some element of opulence and excess. Again, very 80's influenced.
Don't want to add bulk? Make sure the extra fabric is in a flattering area, like in the bust, and not the waist. Knife pleats are another good option because they lie flat at the waist but turn into a fuller shape.

The extra fabric is also important because it adds interest, and style to what seems to be a relatively solid color palate. Since you don't have any busy patterns, this attention to detail is essential, and the detail really stands out.
Want to cover up a problem area? Ruching, gathering, pleating of what ever you choose, all hide imperfections underneath but be careful, they can add bulk and draw attention exactly where you don't want it. for example, if you have big hips, make sure the bodice of your dress has the details. This will draw your eye upwards, away from your hips, and the details will make your bust look bigger, and more proportionate, thus making your hips look smaller.

So now you know to go with a solid color, but what color do you choose? Anything but black. Gem colors are popular, emerald, sapphire, etc. Bright or primary, anything in those categories is very in. And of course yellow is the must have color this spring.

The skirt shape seems to be quite fitted as well. Gone are the full 1950's style skirts. Instead, they have been replaced with a straight or pencil shaped skirt that, although is more intriguingly sexy, can be more challenging to wear. Stay away from the pencil if you have big hips or are pear shaped. It is a great style for boyish figures, or people who are very hourglass and proportionate. If you are pear shaped instead choose a straight skirt.

All in all, the strapless dress this spring is less girly and feminine and more 80's sexy. Close fitting, no frills, and confident.

Designer Spotlight: Mary McFadden

Mary McFadden, “design archaeologist,” “a high priestess of fashion,” and “an American fashion icon.”

As a young girl, Mary McFadden lived on a cotton plantation in Tennessee, then moved to Long Island, NY. She was schooled in New York and Paris, and studied sociology and anthropology at Columbia University. After working as a publicist for Christian Dior – New York and as an editor for Vogue South Africa, she launched her first collection in New York in 1973. She quickly became known for her exuberant use of color and her signature pleated polyester fabric, “Marii.”

Mary McFadden won a Coty Award in 1976 and entered the Coty Hall of Fame in 1979. Since then she has received many honors, including the Neiman Marcus Award for Excellence, the President’s Fellow Award of the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Fashion Week of the Americas Lifetime Achievement Award. She has served as President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. McFadden collections have been shown all over the world – including New York, Paris, Rome, Milan, Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Russia, India, Thailand, Central and South America, and the Middle East.

Mary McFadden draws ideas and expressions from other cultures into her couture designs. One writer said that “the art of ancient civilizations is literally woven into her fabrics.” Her designs celebrate ancient Near Eastern, African, Classical Greek, Javanese, Pre-Columbian, Dynastic Chinese, Japanese and Korean cultures ...and give an art form to dressing.

Carlos Falchi Handbags - History of a Creative Brazilian Designer

Date Dresses: What to wear on Valentine's Day

A dress is definitely the uniform for a Valentine's Day date. There is just something more special, and more romantic about a dress, than there is about separates. Not that is has to be dressier or fancier, a dress just turns it into an occassion rather than just another night out...

So it is Valentine's Day right? You want to be feminine and pretty, but you also want to be sexy and romantic. The fabric you choose is very important in setting the mood of the date. You want a fabric that is soft and touchable. Velvet or chiffon are great choices. Brocade is not. Who wants to cuddle up to something scratchy? If you want something sparkely (maybe to catch his eye), choose something that has a sequin trim, or is only beaded in specific areas... areas that won't get in the way of affection.

Now, what should the cut of your dress be? You want it to be girly and sexy, but you don't want hoochie. Hopefully this is someone you care about, not a one night stand. The top and necklines of the dress are the most important part. More than likely you will be sitting across the table from that special someone, so most of the time he will only see the top of your dress.

V-necklines are always nice. Go as low as you are comfortable with the V. If you are not one to show a lot of decoletage, try a cross over neckline. It can be intreguing without exposing too much. Stay away from a high neckline. It comes off as prude. A cowl neck is a nice alternative. It is winter time so strapless or spaghetti straps might look like you are trying too hard (unless the dress is an obviously wintery fabirc like a soft tweed or knit). Chiffon straps are a better option, and add a soft feminine touch with out hiding too much. Shoulders and collar bones are a very appealing party of a woman's body, so don't cover them up.

Quicky fixes-
Feel like adding a little sex appeal? Ankle strap shoes are an easy and subtle way to vamp up your outfit.

Don't feel touchable? Add a cashmere shrug, or velvet blazer

Feel too exposed? Add a stole, and let it casually drape off your shoulders. It will be very sexy as it slips down your arm...

Feeling blah? Add a rhinestone brooch, or dangle earrings. (Leave your neck bare though, it is much more kissable that way). A brooch also makes a great hair piece.

As co-owner of a vintage and resale clothing website, I am often presented with fashion questions. I am hoping to get your advice on one of the more frequent dilemmas. My clients love vintage and are past feeling uncomfortable wearing a used dress or carrying a pre-owned handbag, but some are hesitant when it comes to giving a used gift. Personally, I feel a vintage gift not only allows you to afford more value on your budget, but that often the item is more unique and special. They may get 10 scented candles, but they'll most definitely only receive one 1940s mesh evening bag. What do you recommend?

Dear Gretchen:

You are asking a woman who has been obsessed with vintage since she was a grade-schooler racing around the house in retro prom dresses (courtesy of a very eccentric grandmother) and pointy shoes with pom-poms on top. Not only do we see absolutely nothing wrong with gifting vintage, we encourage it, but only for certain people. If they don't already wear or appreciate vintage, buy a gift card at Saks instead; you don't want to be known as the person who gave them a hand-me-down.

When you do give vintage, be sure to wrap it beautifully in a box with tissue, tied with a big satin ribbon (presentation is everything). If your gift came from a vintage boutique, place the business card on top of the tissue; if you found your treasure thrifting, skip the card (somehow, Goodwill Industries doesn't have the same cache).

Also appreciated is a little note on the history of the gift, if you know it. For instance: ''The antique market vendor told me this necklace belonged to his great aunt, who was a brilliant soprano who sang at the Met!'' Works for us.

We want your opinion, what should we wear this fall?

What are the hottest trends for fall? A fashion writer asked us that question and while thinking about the answer, I wondered, what do the magazines say the hottest trends this fall are, and what are people really wearing? So I though I would ask you, the people who are actually buying and wearing these trends, what do you think this falls hottest looks are? Please post comments and photos.

These are the wearable trends we came up with...
1. Red accents- nothing breaks up the mundane like red. Add red pumps or a red bag to any outfit for a splash of color and trendiness.
2. Belts- this new "it" accessory this fall is a fabulous belt. Back-in-style.com has a variety of unique and interest belts. 10. Snake skin- exotic and fun, this will spice up any outfit. Feel free to mix textured. Snake skin toughens up a girls chiffon blouse, and works well with graphic prints. Wear a metallic snake belt, or a red snake skin bag, and combine two trends in one.

1. Versatility! A little black jersey dress can serve as a cocktail dress if you add great jewelry, and a small clutch, or you can wear the same dress as a cover up for the beach with flat sandals and a large tote. Going out to lunch, swap your flip flops for some embellished flats and a structured frame bag and you will look polished, but casual.

So it is over 90 degrees outside and you think, what is the point in getting dressed if in 30 seconds I am going to look like a wilted flower. Here are a few pointers to help you look your best even when the temperatures sky rocket.
Embrace your inner bohemian!
The bohemian trend makes it easy to to fashionable and stay cool. Choose gauzy light weight fabrics that either won't show wrinkles or are supposed to be wrinkled, and flowy shapes that aren't constricting and allow the breeze to blow through. Loose fitting natural fibers will allow ventilation, keeping you looking fresh all day long.
Embellish with holes~ Eyelet, Crochet, and Lace
Very feminine and pretty, yet also functional, it allows your skin to brethe. It is especially great in areas where sweat tends to show, and in the most structured areas of your attire; ie: the bustline and waistline. It works two-fold, allowing you to cool off and at the same time, distracting the viewers eye.
Layer
I know, it is seem counter intuitive to wear more clothes instead of less, but trust us on this one. Wear a tighter cotton layer close to your body, and then a loose sheer layer over. The loose layer on top will stay fresh, and conceal the wilting heat effect of the under layer. Just make sure your top layer is either sheer or cut right so you don't look frumpy.
Wear a slip dress
Light, airy, and feminine with lots of lace accents, this is the perfect choice for summer. They make great cover ups for the beach or pool also! Feeling self conscious? Layer a few different ones on top of each other. Or, if you are feeling up to celebrity status, pair your slip dress with cowboy boots as seen on Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Scarlet Johannson, and Tara Reid.
Carry a handbag!
Instead of tucking a purse under your arm, or over your shoulder, carry a handbag. Tucking a bag under your arm, and against your body will make you hotter. Instead, grab a purse you can carry in your hands, away from your body, it will keep you and your bag looking fresh.

Now that we have given you so many tops to choose from on sale, let's help you figure out how to pick one that is the most flattering for you.

Big bust- halter styles with a moderate neckline (not too high, not too low) are great. They provide support and also look very sexy. Stay away from strapless (no support), or anything with a too wide V (you might fall out!). And please make sure your top is fitted. There is nothing more unflattering on a full busted woman than a big baggy shirt!

Small bust- stay away from tube tops which can make you look very flat. V neck lines and flattering and plunging necklines also draw the eyes attention down and away from your chest. Tops with built in bras will just squish what little you do have, so avoid those as well. Instead choose a shirt you can wear a padded bra under if you choose.

Wide shoulders- stay away from racer back or t backs (the athletic styles) which will accentuate your shoulders and back. Halters are a nice alternative, just make sure the neckline isn’t too high. That will also make your shoulders look broader. If you wear a shirt with sleeves, make sure they fall past your shoulder. Capped sleeves will make you look like a foot ball player. Stay away from square necklines, and choose scoop instead. This will create the illusion of a narrower upper body.

Narrow shoulders- just the opposite. Choose capped sleeved tops, and square necklines. Athletic styles will also make you appear broader. Make sure you wear tops that are fitted in the waist, the smallest part of your upper body, making your shoulders look wider.

Small waist- pick a top that draw your attention to your waist with a waist detail like a belt, bow, or some other form of embellishment. Cinch a baggy top with a belt. A shirt that hits right at your waist with a high waisted skirt will make you look even smaller and give you a 1940s silhouette.

Wide waist- all those super cute empire waist tops are for you. Choose a top that is fitted in the bust and loose around your core. Make sure it hits just at your hips and over the top of your jeans, and only wear it with pants or shorts, no skirts (too much bagginess). Stay away from anything that draws attention to your waist like a belt. A top with a wide gathered elastic waistband can work as long as it is baggy on top, making it look like your waist is smaller than it really it.

Big hips- stay away from empire waists. This will make you look like a tent. To keep your figure, choose a top that is fitted in the waist, or has some structure. Pick tops that fall just above the widest part of your hips or higher. This will make your hips look smaller. Square necklines accentuate your shoulders and help balance your silhouette, making your hips look smaller.

Small hips- if you want the illusion of curves, make sure your top is shaped and close fitting in the waist, and add a low slung belt. The top will make your waist look smaller and the belt will accentuate your hips, making the end result curvy. Small hips are the only shape that can wear a tunic top well, so embrace it, but this look won’t help you add sexy curves. Make sure your tops end at the widest part of your hips, adding the illusion of curves.

True Blue! The "IT" color for summer

Fashion Alert! Like it or not, the 80s are back! Here's how to pull off the look!
Like it or not, the 80s are back. And back with a vengance! Celebrities like Renee Zelwegger, Nicolette Sheridan, and Petra Nemcova are wearing strapless ruched mini dresses, Chloe from Project Runway won the whole series with an 80's inspired runway collection. Puffed sleeves were seen at the Oscars on Charlize Theron, Ziyi Zjhang and Gwyneth Paltrow. So you want to be trendy, but you don’t want to look stupid, how do you wear the 80s? The easiest way is to put on a dress! And you have a number of options here.
Strapless mini dresses preferably with some ruching or gathering are very trendy, and easy to wear. Ruching is a great way to hide those problem areas. If you like your top half better than your bottom half this is the way to go. Drop waist dresses with puffy or tiered skirts are very flattering, and forgiving, particularly if you are heavier on bottom. Pair them with very modern shoes, strappy sandals, platforms, or pointy toe pumps for a more contemporary look.
Lace dresses are also an 80s staple gone modern. Stretchy form fitting lace dresses are surprisingly easy to wear. Although they are tight, they are comfortable and easy to move in, and the busy lace hides flaws.
If you are smaller on top, a great way to minimize your bottom is to wear an 80s blazer (big shoulders, puffed sleeves) with narrow pants. Straight leg jeans go with just about any blazer, and add a lace trimmed tank underneath more a feminine touch. This will balance out your top, making your bottom look smaller.
Still not sure you can pull it off, just add an 80s handbag to your look. Large metallic clutch are a great alternative to an evening or day bag. Luckily they are large enough to actually hold what you need to carry, and they fit comfortable under your arm. Want your hands free, try a sling back. Basically any shoulder bag just slung messenger style across you body. Slouchy ones like our Maud Frizon look great, or try the 80s logo purses from Gucci, and others.
No matter which look you choose to go with, you will certainly look fashionable, and not dated!

Interesting fact: Lilly Pulitzer “started with a juice stand in Palm Beach. Lilly, a young, sassy New York socialite had eloped with Peter Pulitzer, grandson of the Joseph Pulitzer and settled in Palm Beach to live the life of the rich and famous. Peter owned several Florida citrus groves, but Lilly needed a project of her own. So in the late 1950's, with Peter's produce, she opened a juice stand on Via Mizner, just off Worth Avenue in Palm Beach.
Lilly Pulitzer's business was a hit, but squeezing oranges, lemons, limes, and pink grapefruit made a mess of her clothes. Realizing that she needed a juice stand uniform, Lilly asked her dressmaker to design a dress that would camouflage the stains. The result? A comfortable sleeveless shift made of bright, colorful printed cotton - pink, green, yellow and orange. The dress even had custom dressmaker details like lining and lace seam bindings. It was perfect for the job and became Lilly's first Classic Shift.
Although her customers liked Lilly's juice, they loved her dress. When people began to ask if they could buy the dress, Lilly had a few more made up to sell in the stand. Soon Lilly was selling more dresses than juice, so she decided to stop squeezing and to focus on designing and selling her "Lillys." Fashion Alert! Spring Fling!
Spring is finally here! Put away all those drab winter clothes, but what should you wear? Lucky for most of us, this spring's trends aren't much different from last year's, but if you are anything like me, you still want some new clothes anyway! So what should you buy?
1. Lace, especially in beige, gold, cream, white and nude colors!
2. Chiffon, and layers of it are a spring essential. Chiffon on anything, tops, dresses, skirts. Its always feminine, and intriguing.
3. Ruffles, but this spring, save them for the trimmings. A ruffle on the hem or on the straps is a cute finishing detail. Feminine but not over the top.
4. Skin-tone colors and whites. This spring instead of bright colors, go head to toe in different hues of the same color family. Neutrals are very in style, but be sure you let your skin get a little color before wearing whites, or you'll look a little pastey.
5. Metallics! Especially accessories like necklaces, handbags, and shoes. It is even okay to mix gold, silver and bronze. And don’t be afraid to wear metallic during the day, just make sure you tone down the rest of your outfit.
6. Platform shoes! But be sure to modernize them with very contemporary clothes, and definitely don't wear them with bell bottoms or a mod mini dress.
7. A great white shirt! It will be the most important and versatile wardrobe piece this spring. Wear with navy blue and red for an always classic nautical theme. Or with Lilly Pulitzer or Lacoste for a preppy look. Try it tucked in with a high waisted 80s pencil skirt for an edgy chic look or untucked with jeans and a cinched belt for a very modern look. There certainly seemed to be a lot of similar dresses on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globe awards~
